Bella Magazine NYC set sail for the launch of their September issue with Ana Ivanovic on the cover.
The funny thing is that I’m not a fan of water since I suffer from motion sickness, which started 10 years ago after I had my second child. I get sick in the car, on the bus, and in any shaky situation. So, I knew this was going to be interesting.
For added interest to my day, the dress i’m wearing was not my planned attire. I had two shows to attend earlier at Lincoln center, so I did those, then I realized I forgot my change of clothing home, in Pennsylvania, (I bought a home in PA, which is about 1 1/2 hrs outside of NYC last summer). And oh, I also realized I forgot all my makeup. CRAP!!!
So what next? I go to H&M of course. I hate shopping (I like buying) so I simply pick up the first ting that looked ok. And, I have a bad habit of not trying on clothing. I’m usually 95% on point with my size picking. Plus I was in a hurry.
I decided to my parents’ house so I can use my mom’s make up. God knows how long she’s had them in the bag. But I go for it, and was quite surprised however, to find a NARS (my fave brand) powder in the bad. I get to dabbling and making up my face. Yet another problem persists; the lighting is the worst i’ve ever used. But I do my best.
I finally leave the house and step into the beautiful sunlit day. I ask my husband who’s waiting in the car, “is my face ashen or whitish?” He responds, “No, it’s fine.” The mirror in the car says something slightly different, but at this point there’s nothing I can do.
In the end, i’m wearing a darn dress I absolutely don’t like. I think it’s too short and it feels a little to close to my bum, my face is absolutely ashy looking, then on the walk to the boat, I twist my right ankle, which has been giving me hell since the car accident, and to top it all off I don’t want to get on the boat.
I did get on the boat eventually, but sat my butt on a bench and did not move until it returned to dock. Through it all, I met some very wonderful people, all full of passion and promise. So it was definitely worth the queasiness and uneasiness.
P.S. Don’t wear your mother’s make up, and always get thee to the fitting room before you leave the store with clothing.

You can see here how ashy my face is looking. But, I held that head up as if nothing was amiss.
