The countdown to a generation born without HIV has begun, with the Born free initiative. Every mother wants her child to be healthy, and the last thing she wants to hear is that her child has a fatal illness. Such has been the case for many mothers with HIV across the globe. But, that doesn’t have to be the case. It’s now possible to have zero transmission with just one pill per day. The born Free initiative is a conscious collection bought to you by an all women team of designers, and particularly, women designers who are mothers.
Their mission is simple. “Support the fashion community and raise awareness to create a global momentum for a generation of children born free of HIV.” As a mother, and as someone who has had family members afflicted by HIV and AIDS, this is an additional cause for celebration.
My mantra is, Giving Is Gorgeous, and this is one of the most gorgeous initiatives ever. Talk about inner and outer beauty. Designers in the initiative include Liya Kedebe, Dian Von Fustenberg, Tory Burch, Jenna Lyons, Rachel Roy, Stella McCartney, Vera Wang and more. All of the design prints will be designed by Acclaimed Kenyan artist, Wangechi Mutu. To learn more about and support the Born Free initiative, visit their website.
